THESSALONIKI AFTER HOURS

Hours before the opening of the 2nd edition of the Collagistas Festival people walk the stairs of the Tabya Art Space up and down. Maybe once or twice that evening, inbetween a few drinks at the old city wall. The next day I see many of them return. I think that´s remarkable. There must be something about that exhibition above that triggers visitors to have a second look and later come back with friends?!
Do they simply like what they see? Is the content overwhelming, even too much to cope with in one time? Do they want to show a friend´s work? Or are they just blown away by numbers: in the show are 52 (!) spectacular collages from artist all over the world. On one wall you can see where they all come from. Even better, many of them are here! That´s what make this show different from many other exhibitions. Maybe that´s why visitors keep coming back: they are part of the event. They mix with the other visitors, many of them artists themselves, who walk them around and guide them in their own language.
As the sun set over ´Saloniki, the place is full with people. From the open windows the seabreeze carries a jazzy noise that comes from the dj on the ground floor. People are smiling, taking pictures with complete strangers and drink icecoffee and Belgian beer. No such thing as curfew here.
